Mia Zahn is the founder and president of Covered in Care, a nonprofit dedicated to spreading comfort and compassion through handmade tie blankets and comfort hearts.
While working as a Certified Nursing Assistant during college, Mia witnessed firsthand how deeply many residents in nursing homes longed for connection. Beyond physical care, she saw the emotional need to feel remembered, valued, and loved. Small moments — sitting beside a resident, listening to their stories, holding a hand a little longer — revealed that comfort often comes through presence and simple acts of kindness.
Inspired by those experiences, Mia created Covered in Care to extend that same warmth beyond the nursing home setting. Today, the organization provides handmade comfort items to individuals in nursing homes, shelters, and safe houses — reminding them that they are not forgotten.
Mia believes that even the smallest gesture can have a lasting impact.
